The Playground is proud to present the album showcase of experimental electronic artist EMIKA’s latest release DREI and guests to be announced. Her relationship with Ninja Tune saw her support the legendary Amon Tobin across North America on his ISAM tour, and she has since taken her mesmeric live show and DJ sets across the world – performing throughout Europe and in Russia and China.
EMIKA‘s status as one of the most captivating, innovative and ambitious artists in electronic music is cemented further with the release of her new album DREI – one of two LPs the Berlin-based, Anglo-Czech talent is releasing in 2015. With a musical vision that’s equal parts Blondie and Kraftwerk, romance and sci-fi, her two albums with Ninja Tune ‘EMIKA’ and ‘DVA’ garnered widespread praise and marked her out as one of the most exciting names amidst the new generation of DIY artists. Producing, singing, songwriting, performing live and curating her visuals, she is an artist truly in charge of her own destiny. Along the way she’s landed an iTunes No. 1 in Canada and No. 2 in the USA, has worked on many collaborative projects alongside names such as Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble, Marcel Dettmann, Pinch, Jimmy Edgar, was responsible for gathering the field recordings of the sounds of Berghain for their Fünf compilation and created a track for the collection herself.
Her performances continue to grow in stature, having wowed crowds across the world from Russia to Madiera, China to the US and all across Europe – and making for a memorable Boiler Room session. DREI embodies the sound of an artist now truly comfortable in her own skin. Released via her own imprint EMIKA Records, the album was written in just two weeks and completely written, performed, produced and mixed by EMIKA herself. It’s the product of a flurry of creative energy which saw her embrace Ableton, learn to DJ, compose a symphony for a 70-piece orchestra and set up the new label.
‘DREI’ live is a fast-paced & hard-hitting electronic music show featuring EMIKA singing, performing and controlling her synths and machines live. She manipulates sounds from the album, improvises vocals, introduces unreleased material and also
specially composed music just for this show. She will deliver the album songs, with fresh energy each time, bringing the music to life and pleasing fans. Visual artists Tving Stage Design (amongst others working for Aphex Twin, HMV Forum UK, Off Festival) collaborate with EMIKA to craft the perfect live LED visualisation of her music. Strong shapes, wild moments of pure colour, deep contrasts of black and white stories. Beautifully composed, this is a very stylish show and will be an unforgettable experience.
